Glen & Leola Tusler

Glen and Leola started square dancing in Helena in 1967 as new dancers with the Lost Corner’s Square dance club. They started round dancing under the direction Ludy and Jo Champa’s round dance group in 1968.  Glen began with some trial square dance calling in 1968.  Glen and Leola dropped out of the square dance scene in 1972 for a few years during the early years of their children. They returned in 1983 with their 3 daughters to square dance as a family. In 1987 when a caller was needed to teach lessons for Capital Squares, Glen stepped in to fill that position continuing on to the present as the new dancer teacher/caller for Capital Squares, Lost Corners and later the new combined Last Chance Square Club.  Within a couple years, he joined as one of the club callers sharing the club dances for Last Chance Squares and has continued in that position to the present.  During the 1997-98 square dance season Glen began calling for the Butte Silver Beaus and Belles.

Without a club round dance cuer and the number of round dancers decreasing in Helena, Glen and Leola agreed to start teaching round dance lessons and Glen learned the art of cueing for the 1998-99 square/round dance season.  Glen and Leola have been actively involved with square dance club events as well as traveling to dance with other clubs in the area.  Special memories have included 3 National Square Dance Conventions as well as several State Square Dance Conventions and Knothead dances. Glen has been a member of CALLERLAB since 1987 and Leola and Glen have been members of  ROUNDALAB since 1998.

Glen currently is working for the Helena School District as a Software Support Technician following his retirement in 2000 with 19 years of teaching and 16 years as an administrator at the Helena Middle School.  Leola retired from the Helena School District following 22 years as an elementary teacher. She also spent 17 years operating a Candy/Cake Decorating Supplies store in Helena.
